Tribune Broadcasting Names Paul Rennie As President/General Manager of Chicago's WGN-TV

CHICAGO, July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune Broadcasting today announced the appointment of Paul Rennie to President and General Manager of WGN-TV in Chicago. In addition to overseeing the long-term strategy and day-to-day management of WGN-TV, Rennie will be responsible for the operations of CLTV, Tribune Broadcasting's Chicago-based regional cable news channel. Rennie will report to Larry Wert, Tribune's President/Broadcast Media, and assume his new duties effective immediately.

Rennie was most recently the Vice President and General Manager of Tribune Broadcasting's Indianapolis television stations, WTTV/CBS4 and WXIN/FOX59.

"Paul brings significant industry and Chicago experience to this role. He understands the variety of opportunities at WGN, from Sports, to News, to becoming a true independent," said Wert. "He is a strategic and innovative thinker with a long history of success in Tribune's major markets; the perfect fit for Chicago's Very Own."

Under Rennie's leadership, WTTV/CBS4 and WXIN/FOX59 increased market share, maximized the development of new business and consistently exceeded revenue goals. In January 2015, Rennie played an integral role in re-launching WTTV as a CBS affiliate, debuting a full slate of newscasts that often out-perform long-established stations in the market. WXIN/FOX59 has consistently ranked as the number one newscast in all news dayparts,* winning several Emmy Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award. Rennie also orchestrated a multi-year agreement with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, establishing the stations as the exclusive broadcast partners of the team.

"WGN is a solid station with a legacy of serving the community with outstanding local news and programming," said Rennie. "I'm excited to be part of a new chapter in WGN's rich history."

From 2004-2013, Rennie served as general sales manager for Tribune's Seattle television stations, KCPQ-TV and KZJO-TV, and their respective digital operations. Rennie also took the lead role in developing a strategic partnership between KCPQ and the Seattle Seahawks.

Prior to his work at Tribune's Seattle television stations, Rennie headed sales for WRTV-TV in Indianapolis for two years, managing and selling across a multimedia platform that included not only the television station, but a cable news channel and website, as well.

Before joining WRTV-TV, Rennie spent nearly 8 years in Chicago at a variety of positions, including Petry Television, ABC National Sales and WLS-TV.

He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in communications in 1985.
